The Details

Radford Institute presents a public lecture - Inclusion Inspires Innovation - by Greg Alchin, a trainer and consultant in special education and technology with a particular interest in universally-accessible web development.

Greg will detail how individuals bring a huge variety of skills, needs, and interests to learning. Neuroscience reveals that these differences are as varied and unique as our DNA or fingerprints. We see evidence of this variability every day in how we personalise what we listen to, view, read, eat and wear. We personalise our driving position and may get upset when someone changes our preferred setting. So how do we enable learners to personalise their learning position to achieve their learning goals? We can do so by recognising we are designers. We make intentional design decisions that support all learners (with or without a disability) to achieve their identified learning goals.

The question is whether we rely upon design assumptions and approaches that are in the past or based on current design thinking and strategies that are agile, responsive and leverage lessons from advances in neuroscience, technology and industry.

These advances enable us to be flexible when designing the ways in which learners access information, process meaning and express understanding, as well as build and sustain engagement in their learning journey.

The event is free and open to all. RSVP by 22 May.
