This week saw the culmination of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program in the form of the Year 6 Exhibition. Students tuned in to the overarching concept, ‘Pushing the limits.’ They worked with parents, mentors from throughout the school, and their dedicated teachers, to explore important concepts such as foresight, advancement, poverty, balance, performance, wellness and inequality.

Our Year 6 students displayed passion, energy, perseverance, insight and creativity. It was a wonderful celebration of the process as well as the product of learning. The students articulated their knowledge and understanding skilfully to an audience that included students, teachers and parents from throughout the Radford community, as well as teachers from the other PYP schools across the ACT.

Quotation re community

We enjoyed our Celebrations last week and it was really wonderful to encourage one another. Moving on from celebrating the character strength of ‘zest’, this week we have ‘teamwork’ in the spotlight: what a powerful strength to encourage and grow. I reflected on the closeness that teamwork is to community. We work together, in community, as a team. We have different parts to fill in the team, and each part of the team is pivotal for the success of the team. Our community relies on teamwork.

I am sure we have all heard the saying, more is caught than taught. The most powerful tool we have at our disposal, as adults, is what we model every day. As we model teamwork, our learners will catch our spirit and intention.
