Prefects' Leadership Retreat

Author: Phil O'Regan, Head of Secondary School
The Prefects' retreat was held at the College in the holiday break. Our elected leaders, together with 17 staff and our invited speaker, Alistair Coe, past student of the College and Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, engaged in workshops, team building exercises and development sessions. The focus of the retreat was exploring leadership within a values centred approach, appreciating diversity in leadership and harnessing the potential of teams. Our Principal Mrs Fiona Godfrey set the tone for the camp and the following sessions challenged the students to consider the leader they want to be and the requisite skills and attitudes to achieve this.
Prefects are allocated to one of eleven leadership portfolios across the academic, pastoral, spiritual, co-curricular and service dimensions of the College. Together with their mentor the leaders identified key priorities for the year ahead, established goals and set achievement indicators. The energy, creativity and motivation of this group of leaders was evident throughout the weekend and they have many wonderful ideas and plans in store for the year ahead.
Prefects will continue their leadership education throughout the year, participating in ongoing workshops and experiences exploring leadership approaches and hearing testimonies from leaders in the government, non-government, military and sporting sectors.
