Radford contingent at the Round Square Conference in Korea

Article by Josh Walker, Year 11

From 22 January to 1 February, four students and Radford?s Round Square Coordinator, Miss Victoria D?Alton, travelled to the 2015 Round Square Australasian Regional Conference in South Korea. Coming from the Australian summer, Korea?s icy winter was a shock, so our team spent three days acclimatising in Seoul. We were in awe of the sites we saw including the palaces, Korean War Memorial, and experiencing what the locals enjoy regarding shopping the markets and eating delicious traditional Korean food.

After these busy days we travelled to Cheong Shim International Academy, where we met over 60 students from Round Square schools across the Australasian region including Singapore, Thailand, Korea & Australia. Another three days was spent getting to know these people. We visited the Demilitarized Zone between North and South Korea and experienced more of what Seoul has to offer.

The group then travelled to Chadwick International School in Incheon, where the conference itself began. The conference focused on the influence and legacies of famous figures Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Reverend Moon and Kurt Hahn. We held discussion groups to examine how the lives of these great individuals could teach and inspire us to build bridges beyond borders and achieve world peace.

The trip was an incredible experience; we were immersed in Korean culture and made lasting friendships that stretch across the world. I would like to thank Miss D?Alton and everybody who made the Conference possible, and recommend all students to consider participating in a Round Square experience.

If you are interested in participating in a future Round Square Conference please complete an Expression of Interest form and submit it to Miss D?Alton ASAP.
