ISRA - Independent Schools Rowing Association Regatta 2020
From Ms Vicky Spencer – Director of Rowing
On Saturday Radford rowing packed up the boat shed and took 100 students up to Sydney to race at the International Regatta for our first major event of the season. For some of our rowers, this was their debut race or first visit to the Olympic rowing course. Every student raced between 2 – 5 events, helping Radford take home an impressive medal haul of 24 medals: 6 Gold, 12 Silver and 6 Bronze.
The success of event was a direct result of the cohesive team effort from coxes, rowers, coaches, staff and parent volunteers. Our team of quality, switched-on coxes kept the crews on time and sharp, busily hopping from one crew to another to get them to the start line on time. The focus of the day was ‘if learning is not uncomfortable, you are not really learning, this is the seat of discomfort’ (Brene Brown). Our students certainly all put themselves into uncomfortable positions, learning to deal with competition, learning about how to manage themselves in high pressure environments and how to work in a team.
A big ‘thank you’ to the Friends of Radford Rowing for keeping students, coaches and staff fed and watered, and to all rowers, students, coaches, staff and supporters.
Round 4 – Nicholls Monday 9 November 2020
U12 Boys Radford Raptors just missed out on a win against the Daramalan Red 5-6 last week, with the team showing good skill improvement, thanks to Coach Will.
U9 Mixed Radford Roadrunners had a convincing win against the Mixed Marvels 13 – 3
U9 Boys Radford Muffins had a win against The Wolf Squad 7-2
U12/13 Mixed Sharks played a great game, especially those who are new to OzTag. There was some impressive passing and even more impressive tagging - tagging is much harder than it looks! Unfortunately, the opposition got the better in the second half, but the Sharks should be proud of how they played.
