ANU Asia Pacific Day 2022

Last Friday, the Year 11 Global Studies and Asian languages classes were lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend the ANU’s Asia Pacific Day. For the Global Studies student, the day began with a workshop with Greer Alblas who spoke of her time working at the UN in Geneva and gave us insights into a career as a diplomat. I found this to be a highly engaging experience that certainly piqued my interest.

After this, we met up with the Asian languages students at the ANU, and we to listened to lecturers promote a myriad of courses at the ANU. The wide variety of courses and classes available on offer meant no one felt it to be irrelevant to their educational journey. Moreover, we learnt about the amazing ANU exchange programs on offer.

After the first round of speeches, there were numerous activities to move on to, from a Kabuki masterclass to a K-Pop dance class, further highlighting the sheer diversity of classes available. Following this we were treated to a ‘taster’ of some of the many Asian languages on offer at the ANU.

This was a great way to allow students a chance to determine if studying a language at university would be an appealing choice. To conclude the day, we were offered the choice between lectures on the history of Bollywood and the importance of Pacific Studies. I found this day to be a great opportunity to learn about the wide variety of relevant and exciting prospects the ANU offers that can in turn lead to a fruitful career.
