We are excited to once again be able to welcome overseas language assistants to the College, and I am seeking expressions of interest in hosting a French in Term 1, 2 or 3, or a Japanese assistant in Term 3 next year.

Families usually host for one term, during term time only, as the assistants are expected to travel during holiday periods. Assistants are young adults who have just finished university/are taking a gap year prior to post-graduate study and are volunteering to assist in language classes.

We are currently looking for expressions of interest in hosting:

  • 1 male French assistant aged 19
  • 1 female Japanese assistant aged 25

The College pays a $200 per week allowance to families to assist with living costs.

If you are able to host, or would like more information, please feel free to contact michele.sharp@radford.act.edu.au

Without the kind support of Radford families, we are unable to offer these extension opportunities in our language classes.

The ideal host family

  • Has a degree of real interest in learning about France/Japan and its culture.
  • Is able to spend time with the assistant and treat them as a member of the family.
  • Can provide a separate bedroom for the assistant.
  • Can help the assistant with understanding the expectations and rules of the household (learning how to use the washing machine, clear up after dinner etc.).
  • Is located close to public transport or is within walking/cycling distance of Radford.
