By Director of Sport, Megan Fritsch

As a result of an extensive and thorough recruitment process, Radford College is excited to announce Gordon Marcks as its new Head of Rowing. Gordon is highly regarded for his technical knowledge, experience and leadership across the Australian high-performance rowing pathways and school communities. Radford is looking forward to Gordon starting at the College on Monday 10 October 2022, ready to commence the 2022/23 rowing season.

Gordon joins Radford College from his long-term role as Rowing Australia Para Rowing Head Coach, where he has a history of on-water international success. Gordon coached back-to-back World Rowing Championship titles and crews at various World Cups and Paralympic Games, ensuring Australia is a leading para-rowing nation. Furthermore, he is a current member of the World Rowing Para Rowing Commission, a global-facing role driving the development of procedure, policies and community engagement.

Prior to his role with Rowing Australia, Gordon held the position of Head Coach at the ACT Academy of Sport (ACTAS) where he was responsible for leading, managing and coaching the ACTAS rowing program. He was coach of numerous U19, U23 and World University Teams, State teams competing at National Championships, Rowing Australia Youth Cup and Australian Olympic Committee Youth Olympics crews.

As a former high-performance rowing athlete himself, and a qualified Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) teacher, Gordon commenced his coaching, program management and leadership career as the Rowing Master and PE teacher at The Scots College, Sydney.

I am excited to have someone of Gordon’s character and outstanding experience and expertise to lead the Radford Rowing Program. In addition to focusing on high-quality on-water development, he really emphasises that the positive wellbeing, safety, personal growth and enjoyment of our students will be important precursors to the shed’s performance.
