Year 9 Camp - Glenworth Valley

By Ashlee Turner, Acting Head of Year 9

The Year 9 Glenworth Valley Outdoor Education journey was an overwhelming success. Thank you to all who contributed to the smooth running of the event, including Radford staff, OEG staff, and parents.

The wet weather didn't deter students from having a great experience.

Hear about the camp from the perspective of Year 9 student Matthew Morey below.

“Reflecting on camp this past week, the majority of us can say that it was an amazing experience. Throughout the week, we were challenged by all the different aspects of camp as we worked with a group of students from our year, learning to survive comfortably in the natural environment.

“Over the course of the week, we learned new skills such as navigation techniques, route planning, camp craft, team building, and leadership skills. We were given the opportunity to grow as we were taken out of our comfort zones and into an environment that was both challenging and rewarding.

“There was a need for resilience, perseverance, and especially enthusiasm. Of course, the camp wasn't easy for everybody. Each day, the conditions changed as we faced challenge after challenge, including the weather, terrain, lack of comfort that we aren't used to, and, of course, the leeches.

"Overall, Year 9 Camp was an amazing experience, during which we learned and experienced so much. It was a chance to learn new skills, work with others, and challenge ourselves in the great outdoors. I'm sure those of us who came on Year 9 Camp will never forget the experience.”
