A Midsummer Night's Dream

By Ms Ailsa Mackerras, Teacher

Year 8 students recently enjoyed a trip to Canberra Theatre to watch Bell Shakespeare's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The students were engaged by the professional performance, which brought Shakespeare's play to life. Many students had never seen Shakespeare performed on stage. Here’s what some of the year 8 students had to say about the production:

“It was enjoyable and a fun experience with an engaging plot line” –
Ciara

"It was very unique watching very passionate and authentic people act out the production" – Angelina

“It was an intriguing play that really got you focused, while trying to understand the words, the actors were also very funny and made it 10 times better” – Amelie

“I liked the sound effects and lighting, and the props were cool. The story was interesting. I liked the fairy queen the most” – Max

“I liked how they used the space of the entire stage. They used music to affect the mood” – Josh

“I enjoyed the humour in the story line. The set was interesting and versatile. They used it in so many ways. The lighting was really cool in how it helped describe the scene” – Cecilia

“I liked how they used the sound when there was transition between characters. They went straight into the story and changed between parts of the story smoothly. The costume changes were really cool. They played it realistically, even changing their voices when playing a different character” – Rohan

“I found the play very engaging and funny. It showed three different stories: the actors making a play in a play, the couples being cursed and the evil people who met in a grove. I found the set very interesting with the wooden wall that the characters used to enter and exit” – Sam
