Radford Wins Debating Competition

By Nick Ewbank, Head of History, Philosophy and RAVE and Director of Oratory.

Congratulations to the Radford 1 Team of Roshan Kewalram, James Dixon, Camilla Lupton and Terry Yang for a resounding win over Canberra Grammar in the Advanced Premier Debating Competition.

It was a unanimous decision by the judges, which is rare in competitive debating. This means that of 18 debates this year, the team has lost one, forfeited one, won one on forfeit, and won 15 debates - an 83 per cent success rate. Their success is an unusual domination of a competition. In nearly 30 years, I can't remember a team that has been so dominant.

Roshan was Best Speaker in the competition, and James ranked third. Roshan was the Best Speaker in the Final.

In the Junior Competition (Years 7 and 8), Radford 1 went down to Canberra Girls Grammar School in a split decision. Emma Siwei Huang was the Best Speaker of the Final and ranked second in the whole competition.
