From the Chairman

By Steve Baker, Chairman of Radford College Board

On behalf of your Board, I am pleased to update you on one of our main agenda items this year, the Master Plan and Sports Precinct. As reported earlier one of the

key focus areas of your Board has been ensuring we have appropriate facilities to support our increased numbers of students with the Sports Precinct (including the Multi-purpose Facility) all very high on our agenda.

In considering this project, the Board has been focused on balancing the need for functional spaces, both new and where possible refurbished, with the all-important value for money. We are also mindful of maximising the end result, i.e., facilities of a very high standard, while minimising disruption to the day-to-day operations of the College. I believe given the measured approach and the diversity of thinking around the Board room table, with significant input from all key stakeholders, we have been able to succeed on all counts.

Preparations for Stage 1, a new 187-bay carpark in the area around the maintenance shed, have already started, with more work to take place during the coming holidays. Once the new carpark is operational, construction of the next exciting phase can begin - six new playing courts where the existing Haydon Drive boundary carpark is currently located (Stage 2).

Stages 3 and 4 will see the large component of the vision with the building of the state of the art and much needed Multi-purpose Facility, located between the two ovals, near the Year 5 and 6 classrooms conveniently accessible to both the Junior and Secondary schools. In addition to this new facility, we will also see the refurbishment plus additions of classrooms, change rooms and bathroom facilities to the G. Wigg Sports Centre plus the new Cricket Centre (funded via the very generous donation from the Boorer family through the Radford Foundation) on the northerly aspect. This work will commence in early December, after school finishes, and should be completed around the middle of 2022.

Below are several artist’s impressions of the Multi-purpose Facility (MPF), the G. Wigg Sports Centre additions and the new Cricket Centre. As you can see, it is an exciting time as we develop the College campus for the benefit of our whole community.
