Celia Lindsay is one of Radford College’s Communications Officers, retiring after 14 years' service.

What did you do before you joined Radford College?

I moved to Canberra from the Blue Mountains in 2009. My previous work experience was extremely varied and included being an Electorate Officer for a Federal Member of Parliament, a Teacher and Administrator at Blue Mountains Grammar School, running a B&B and a training business, and nine years at a retail bank.

What roles have you held at Radford College?

For my first seven years at Radford as Community Relations Manager, I was a department of one. My duties included assisting the P&F, including convening several Fetes and Art Shows, as well as managing College events and publications. I also assisted as a volunteer in the RAID Basketball service-learning activity for more than five years.

In 2015, the Community Relations Department was replaced with a Communications Department under Mick Bunworth as Manager, and I went part-time as a Communications Officer, which allowed me to spend more time visiting Sydney caring for my elderly mother. At work, my main focus was on preparing the weekly Bulletin and assisting with Radford’s many end-of-year events.

How did you find settling into Canberra from the Blue Mountains?

When I arrived in Canberra, I had intended to eventually return to the Blue Mountains. However, with both my parents gone, I decided that Canberra was indeed my long-term home. Ahead of knee-replacement surgery in 2021, I moved into a ground floor apartment in Barton, a wonderful location just a few hundred metres from Bowen Park, Lake Burley Griffin, and the National Gallery and Library. With a terrace larger than my apartment, I can still indulge my passion for gardening, with a ‘no-dig’ garden of pots on trolleys.

What’s next for you?

I am retiring in January 2023 after 14 years at Radford - the longest time I have worked anywhere. What has always made Radford special to me is the value it places on the holistic development of young people. Education in lifelong values is the key priority: truth, compassion, wisdom – it has been wonderful to be part of this endeavour.
