Support our Christmas Appeal

Christmas Appeal details

By Melinda Hamilton, Junior School Teacher

Radford College has been supporting the Christmas Hamper Appeal coordinated by Capital Region Community Services (CRCS) for many years now. The organisation supports many people in our local community of Belconnen, and each year, puts together around 100 hampers that brighten the Christmases of more than 260 local people.

The Radford Tribal Council (RTC) recently met with organisers of the Christmas Hamper Appeal, Sam and Nat, who shared with us how the organisation helps people and gave suggestions of useful gifts. They recorded this message for the Junior School.

The RTC students visited Kmart this week to spend the $944 profit they made from the Term 3 Junior School (JS) Discos on gifts for people in need this Christmas.

The RTC would also love to invite the JS community to further support the Christmas Hamper Appeal by purchasing a new gift and placing it in the magic bathtub in the JS Foyer. These gifts will all make a difference by brightening the Christmases of many who otherwise may not have a gift to open on the day.

Gift suggestions (all gifts to be unwrapped please):

  • BonBons - this year the CRCS wants to ensure all hampers include BonBons.
  • Christmas decorations.
  • Christmas-themed food treats - mince pies, chocolates, nice coffee, etc.
  • Toys and games for children ranging from babies through to teens – think about what you would like for Christmas! Books, Pokemon cards, board games, sports equipment, and craft kits are all very popular gifts.
  • Gift vouchers, especially for teens. E.g., EB Games or other stores at the Westfield mall as this is the closest shopping area.

Donations can be dropped off at the JS Foyer from Week 4 and items will be taken by CRCS on Friday, 18 November.
