Lachlan Lloyd
Lachlan Lloyd is an outstanding student leader at Radford College who has demonstrated leadership of initiatives that have benefited the school and others. Leading with humility and a strong sense of purpose, Lachlan is the rarity in our society: high academic achievement combined with maturity, high emotional intelligence and dedication to working to make the lives of others better. He is worthy of the nomination for an Order of Australia Association Student Citizenship Awards in the category of “Exceptional Individual Leadership and Achievement”.
Through his 14 years at Radford, leadership has been an integral part of his school life. In Year 2 he started his own fundraiser for the Fred Hollows Foundation. In Year 3, he joined the Radford Tribal Council (now the Radford School Council) and by Year 6, he was chosen as Master of Ceremonies for the Junior School Awards event. In Year 11 he was chosen to be a House Vice-Captain for Karri and to attend as an ambassador for the College a Round Square exchange to Aiglon College in Switzerland. This year, his final year at Radford, he has been awarded the role of College Captain, a position that has provided him with the opportunity to lead by example, as a role model to all Radford students and in practice, various initiatives to build a positive school tone and culture and ensure all students feel they belong.
As College Captain, Lachlan has led with integrity, commitment, and a strong sense of purpose. He is an exemplary role model to all students in the College, upholding and promoting high expectations in the student body around respectful rapport, and consistently demonstrating kindness, fairness, and empathy in their interactions with peers and staff. Lachlan has modelled the importance of setting and working towards personal goals, encouraging others to strive for their best in all areas of school life. He is a visible leader, leading the Prefect body in regular meetings and speaking regularly to the wider College community at assemblies and other significant school events such as at the Foundation Day House ceremony. Through his inclusive leadership, he has created a sense of belonging and unity across the student body, ensuring all voices feel heard and valued.
In total to date this year, Lachlan has completed over 120 verified service hours in areas including cocurricular at the College, mental health and fundraising. He exemplifies the qualities of being an outstanding Australian citizen with his dedication to respect and equality for all, helping others and showing compassion for those in need. In attending Junior School Carnivals and Year 3, 5 and 7 camps to assist staff with running the carnivals and camps, Lachlan has enabled those students who may have struggled with the demands of the events to have a peer by their side to encourage them to achieve their best. In participating in Relay for Life and World’s Greatest Shave, Lachlan has given of his own time, many hours for Relay for Life, to raise money for cancer research in Australia. Lachlan also donates blood/plasma and volunteers at a dialysis clinic in Garran, not for recognition but because he is passionate about improving hospital and national infrastructure systems. With an Actuarial & Software Engineering degree, Lachlan hopes to move into a statistics or computational heavy area of software. “An area that interests me specifically is developing systems for hospital management.”
