National Simultaneous Storytime Day
National Simultaneous Storytime Day
By Mrs Tanya Priest-Willimott and Ms Shellee Nikolaou, Teacher Librarians
Wednesday, 22 May was National Simultaneous Storytime Day. This event is in its 24th year, and the book for this year was Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker. The event is marked by a live reading of the story at midday, with the idea that all around Australia, people come together to share and enjoy a story.
Students in Year 1 and Year 2 came together at midday and joined over two million other participants at more than 21 000 locations across Australia and the world to enjoy the reading of Bowerbird Blues by the author.
After the story, the students were then able to build on this with a performance by Ms Gretel Burgess, who brought Bowerbird Blues to life through a dance performance. Afterwards the students joined in with the movements.
Pre K students and the Bowerbird Kinder class enjoyed the story being read by ACT Parks and Conservation Ranger, Ms Lara Woollcombe, followed by a discussion with her about bowerbirds.
Three Year 6 classes attended the library for a special reading of the story with Ms Nikolaou.
