On Thursday, 27 October, students and parents of two Year 12 English classes spent their evening enjoying Radford’s inaugural Night of Non-Fiction.

Having spent the semester studying the journalistic works of writers such as Truman Capote, Gloria Steinem and Hunter S. Thompson, students were tasked with writing their own new journalistic pieces.

Through conducting interviews with loved ones to undertake deep self-reflection, students blended real-life events, with a fictional writing style, to produce touching, creative, non-fiction works.

Their pieces of literature encompassed various themes and explored a multitude of concerns within society, from isolation to motherhood, and trust. The depiction of personal struggles and harrowing experiences recounted from family members provided unique perspectives worth sharing.

In light of this, the Night of Non-Fiction encouraged students to read aloud their works and share their transformative experiences with other students and families.

Thrilled for the opportunity to hear about the extraordinary lives of their peers, the crowd listened intently and in awe at the sympathetic stories.

Coupled with light refreshments and live music from Radford’s very-own musical talent, A Tuesday Sentiment, the Night of Non-Fiction was a memorable celebration of life and individuality.

Hopefully, this beautiful event will become a Radford tradition!
