Rowing Club of the Year Finalist

By Megan Fritsch, Head of Sport

The Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards recognise the most outstanding contributions from volunteers, and the most exceptional achievements of coaches and athletes throughout each year. They are the pinnacle awards within the Australian rowing community and are awarded across a variety of categories each year.

Radford College Rowing Program has been named as one of four Australia-wide finalists for the Club of the Year Award for 2021. This award is based on the club that has made the most significant impact on their local community by driving participation and development during 2021.

The awards presentation will be held on Friday, 11 March 2022 at the Penrith Panthers Leagues Club.

The 2020/21 season was arguably one of the best for Radford Rowing in recent years, with the following standout results:

  • Winners of the overall point score, school point score, school U14, U16 and U19 point score at the Australian Indoor Rowing Championships
  • Achieving Gold in 11 events at the ACT Head of the Lake, and wining the same number of Gold at the ACT Junior Championships
  • Finishing equal 10th at the NSW State Championships in point score – the 1st placed ACT school
  • 32 rowers competed at the 2021 Australia National Championships, where the shed won 4 national titles (U17 Boys Double Scull, Schoolgirl Quad Sprint, U17 Schoolgirl Eight, and the Schoolboy Coxed Quad). Crews also took away two silver medals (U17 Girls Coxed Quad Scull and the U19 Boys Quad) and a bronze medal (U17 Quad).
  • Radford Rowing won the overall Schoolboy and Schoolgirl point scores at the Australian National Championships and were crowned the Australian Championship School.

This amazing achievement is a culmination of many years of growth and development for the Radford Rowing Program, with significant involvement and support from rowers and coxswains, coaches, parents, Friends of Radford Rowing (FORR), the Head of Rowing, the Sports Department, Radford Executive and Board and the entire Radford community.
