Rowing: Head of the River 2021
From Ethan Toscan, Rowing Captain
On the weekend of 13/14 March, the prestigious NSW Schoolgirl/Schoolboy Head of the River competition was held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith. This was the biggest school competition of the season, with rowers from Year 8 upwards competing. 107 Radford rowers competed against 1584 rowers from other school across NSW and ACT. Our rowers competed in a combined 43 events across the weekend, with the boys achieving 3rd place in the overall point score and the girls 6th. This was an excellent result.
Saturday was the Schoolboy Head of the River, held in muggy, hot, calm conditions. In the morning, the boys went for a pre-race row on the Nepean River, fine tuning their technique ready for an afternoon full of racing. Racing commenced at 2:30pm with the boys taking away 3 Gold, 3 Silver, and 2 Bronze Medals. It was a fantastic performance from all the boys who rowed.
Notable performances included:
A very exciting, nail-biting finish for the Year 10 B Quad of Aidan Roberts, Curtis Garrett, Jan Weber, Connor Jacopino, Cox: Pippa Humphries, winning Gold by 0.14 of a second!
