2021/22 Cricket ACT Junior Competition Finals
Despite missing two of their stalwarts - Rohan Steven and Arthur Oliver - the Radford Stars delivered a gutsy performance in their Stage 2 Div 2 Grand Final against Marist College on Saturday. Batting first, the Stars employed the same aggressive running tactics that worked so well the previous week in the Semi-Final. However, the Marist team were a much better fielding unit than Semi-Final opponents CGS, which resulted in four runouts during the Stars’ innings. Amidst the chaos, Michael Harsdorf kept a cool head and held the innings together, top-scoring with 23. Together with Aarav Kochhar, the pair put on 43 runs for the final wicket, which gave them a defendable total of 92.

Bowling has been the strength of the Stars all season. Despite a solid opening stand by Marist, the Stars hung in the contest. Mark Brown jagged the first wicket with the score on 17, but some impressive batting from Marist’s numbers 3 & 4 put them in the box seat. In typical Stars fashion, they stuck together as a unit and competed bravely until the end. Marist hit the winning runs with 15 balls remaining in the match.

The Stars have epitomised teamwork and commitment all season. A special mention must go to coach, Jay Allen, for his exceptional efforts this year.

Hancock Prospecting Rowing Australia Awards Night
After an outstanding 2021 Rowing Season, Radford College was selected as one of four finalists for the Rowing Australia Club of the Year Award. Last Friday night, Ben Heatley and Ellen Mihaljevic, the 2022 Radford Rowing Captains, were joined by Dr Adrian Johnson (Deputy Principal, Head of Secondary School), Megan Fritsch (Head of Sport), Craig Muller (Acting Sports Program Manager Rowing), Vicky Spencer (former Head of Rowing), Nikki Schroeder (former President of the Friends of Radford Rowing) and Sarah Kruger (2022 President of FORR) attend the black-tie event at the Penrith Leagues Club.

The night provided the opportunity to celebrate the success of the Australian Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Rowers, who won 2 Gold, 1 Silver (Paralympics) and 2 Bronze medals.

Newcastle Rowing Club (NSW) received the Club of the Year Award. The Club has experienced a 59 percent increase in membership from last season. So successful is their promotion that the club has had to place a hold on new members due to capacity limits. The Club has an active and strong group of volunteers who engage with the community in Newcastle and Sydney, and volunteers regularly attend coaching seminars and “hour of power” information sessions to upskill themselves. The club is a strong supporter of the Rowing NSW Indoor Rowing Series.

Even though Radford did not bring home the Club of the Year Award, the night finished with Radford Collegian, Luke Letcher announced as the 776BC Rowers’ Rower of the Year. Luke is a Tokyo Olympic Bronze Medallist and Member of the Men’s Quadruple Scull. Congratulations, Luke, on receiving this award, voted on by members of the 2021 Australian Rowing Team.
