Brumbies High School 7s Gala Day – Boys
On Wednesday 26 May, Years 7/8 and 11/12 Rugby 7s teams took to Southwell Park in the annual Brumbies High School 7s Gala Day. The teams competed against schools from the Canberra region, with Jindabyne, Cooma and Goulburn all making the trip to Canberra.
The Years 7/8 team competed strongly in their pool, winning three matches and drawing the fourth. The team just missed out on progressing to the final, finishing second in their pool after points for and against were considered.
The Years 11/12 team also had a successful day, finishing first in their pool and progressing to the quarter-finals. The team took out a win in the quarter-finals over Jindabyne High but fell short in the semi-finals against a strong Erindale College side. Both teams performed well and a thank you to Andy Fleming and Tim Robards who coached our teams on the day.
Netball
The netball program at Radford is continuing strongly this season, with the Cadets White team securing their first win of the season a week before a competition-wide bye. The team put in a great effort in what was a physical game, and demonstrated fantastic school values throughout the match. The team kept their composure and persistence throughout the game and were able to come away with a 3-goal victory.
Netball will resume on 5 June for one round, before breaking until 17 July.
Belconnen Region Primary Schools and ASC Cross Country Carnivals
Week 6 was a significant week on the calendar for Cross Country. On Wednesday, 26 May, 50 students from Years 2–6 represented Radford at the Belconnen Region Primary School Cross Country Carnival at Stromlo.
There was an enormous crowd of students, teachers and supporting parents, with some outstanding performances from Radford students. The Radford Sports Department will post the results as soon as the organising school sends through the final results.
On Friday, 28 May, 125 Radford students from Years 7–12 competed in the Association of Southern Colleges (ASC) 2021 Cross Country at Stromlo.
The entire carnival was organised and coordinated by the Radford Sports Department. It was a glorious day out on the track, and all Radford students should be extremely proud of their efforts.
A huge “thanks” goes to the Radford Facilities team for assisting with bus shuttles so students could compete and also return to class. A shout also to Angus Walker (Year 12), Benjamin Scott (Year 12), Harrison Lonsdale (Year 12), Olivia Hickey (Year 11) and Patrick Walker (Year 11) for running the BBQ for the entire day.

The Radford NPLY teams had another successful round against the Monaro Panthers, the final scores being:

Rugby
It was another winning round for both the U14 and U18 Boys rugby teams at Radford on Saturday.
The U14s played a close game against St Edmunds, managing to come away with a 38–31 win. The team started strongly in the first half, and held off a fast-finishing St Edmunds team, which scored a few late tries in the second half to narrow the margin to 7.
The U18s continued their strong form against the Grammar 3rd XVs, scoring seven tries to one in the comfortable 45–7 win. The team is continuing to go from strength to strength, with those players new to rugby really starting to find their feet this season.
