Sports Report: 2 Mar 2022

Once again, our Radford students and sports programs filled their weekend with sport. With our summer sports rolling into finals, the College had several teams either finishing their final round games or taking on the semi-finals.

Cricket Semi-Finals
The 2021/22 cricket season ended the way it started for several teams over the weekend… with a washout. In a season plagued by wet weather, it was unfortunate that the Stage 2 Hurricanes and Strikers couldn’t play their final match of the season. The Scorchers managed to get a game in, emerging victorious with a 61-run defeat of Ginninderra.

In other Stage 2 fixtures, the Stars locked-up a finals spot with a comfortable victory over Ginninderra, whilst the Sixers suffered their first loss of the season to Queanbeyan.

The Raiders had a tough loss to Marist in their last 30-over fixture of the season.

All Stage 1 and Girls fixtures were washed out on Friday night, but hopefully teams can play their final fixture round this Friday.

Finals cricket commences on Tuesday night for the Sixers (Stage 2 Div 1), who play Wests Maroon in the T20 Final at Kaleen North Oval (4:30pm). The Sixers, Stars and First XI will all be competing in semi-finals this weekend.

Futsal Finals
Congratulations and good luck to the U13 Open Division 2 Maroon, U15 Open Division 2 White and U16 Girls Division 2 Blue team who will be playing grand finals this weekend.

A special mention to the U12 Open Division 2, U16 Girls Division 2 Maroon and White teams who went down in semi-finals over the weekend.

2022 Kings | PLC | Rep 8+ Rowing Regatta
It seems it is either stifling hot or pouring with rain whenever there is a rowing regatta at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (SIRC). Unfortunately for the Kings | PLC regatta, the heavens were open, and it was a drenching day of wet weather and mud. This did not stop the Radford rowers, who again produced some outstanding results.

A huge shout out to the Year 8 Paddler Girls, who competed in their first interstate regatta – they manage themselves exceptionally well and it was great to see their smiling faces throughout the entire day.

NSW Touch Football State Cup
In the Week 4 Bulletin we mentioned that there were several Radford students representing City Magic at the NSW Touch Football State Cup in Wagga. We unfortunately omitted Georgia Donaldson from this list – well done, Georgia, on this achievement.

The Sports Department is always pleased to hear of Radford student sporting success – if you have any news, photos or videos please send them through to CCSports@radford.act.edu.au or @radfordsport on Instagram!
