Year 5–6 BACT Sue Geh Cup Competition
It was an excellent display of teamwork by the Radford Year 5-6 Basketball Team which competed in the 2022 BACT Sue Geh Cup Competition in Week 6. The team consisted of Chloe J, Wareesha M, Alba M, Ava O, Amara Q, Madeleine R, Charlie R, Lucy S, Ashley W, Zali W, and Naina Y.

The team had convincing wins against Charnwood-Dunlop B, Macgregor, Hawker and Turner Primary Schools and in the semi-final, Radford played Lyneham. The girls progressed to the Grand Final and were matched against a very skilled Aranda Team. It was a hard-fought game with the Radford coming away as runners-up.

Thank you to the parents who came to support the team, and a special mention to Jane Russell and Amy Fox for running the score bench for every Radford game – it was very much appreciated.

U12 Eagles Basketball
Report by Rick Miles
The weekend saw the end of the regular season for our U12 basketball teams and Mr Andy Gordon came along to watch and support our teams, and share in their celebrations for the end of the season. Congratulations to the Cardinals and the Bears for making the finals.

The last game for the U12 girls Eagles saw a massive crowd of parents, carers, friends and family coming along to celebrate the team’s achievements. The girls played another fantastic game which demonstrated how they had developed over the season. They may not have won the game, but you wouldn’t know it from the cheers and support from the crowd.

It has been a fantastic season and the girls are looking forward to getting back on the court next season. The Eagles would like to thank Coach Trish Noel, for all her advice, guidance, commitment and support throughout the season. The Eagles would also like to thank Mr Gordon for coming along to support the team and the Radford Basketball Program.

SSACT Selections and Achievements
Congratulations to Sarah Rogic who has been selected in the SSACT 12&U Netball Team to compete at the Australian Championships from 10–16 September in Wollongong.

A shout out to Amelie Smith who competed in the School Sport Australia Championships as one of the youngest members of the ACT 12Us Girls Hockey team during Week 6. The ACT team had a great tournament, finishing with a bronze medal and a historic high position of third. The girls played some terrific hockey and were very competitive in every game, only conceding 4 goals in total.

Of the six games played over the week, ACT had 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses (to Queensland and NSW – whom went on to come first and second respectively). Great friendships were made with all the states and territory girls who competed.

Please note – Radford Sport does not get officially notified by SSACT when a student is selected in an SSACT representative team. This information is publicised on the SSACT Facebook page or needs to be provided by the student or parent to CCSports@radford.act.edu.au for it to be celebrated.

Belconnen Athletics Carnival
