Four days in the wilderness

By Julia Oreo, Acting Head of Year 10

Due to inclement weather, the Year 10 Camp was relocated to Biloela near Bowral, NSW, resulting in a shorter camp. Nevertheless, students gave it their all and made the most of the program.

Student reflections

“I enjoyed Year 10 Camp a lot! The campsites on the first two nights were nice, but the one on the last night was beautiful, and so was the scenery walking around Belanglo Forest. Going to the toilet in the bush was definitely an experience but it wasn't that bad, and the food was pretty good, especially the dinners. It would've been nice to do a few more adventurous activities such as canoeing. I had loads of friends in my camp group, which made me want to get involved, and my Outdoor Education Group guide and teacher were very nice, which made my experience much more enjoyable” - Katie Wyman.

“If I could describe camp in five words, it would be, ‘Go big or go home.’ It was a challenging but fun experience, where we got to expand our relationships and teamwork ability” - Yian Duan.

“Year 10 Camp was an interesting experience for me. Although the camp was shortened from the original eight-day expedition, I still found the activities we got to take part in interesting and nostalgic as the locations and experiences reminded me of my Year 7 Camp. I especially enjoyed abseiling. Although it seemed daunting in the moment, I was definitely happy that I did it. Overall, the experience was memorable and worth going into with an open mind” - Jadon Wijendra.

“Camp came with many challenges; the packs were heavy, the hikes were long, and the weather wasn't too pleasant. However, as challenges arise, accomplishments always follow closely behind. After every step we took and every hill we climbed, a smile and a laugh still somehow managed to make its way onto our faces” - Rena Cao.
