Year 10 student flies solo

Radford’s William Lumb has conducted his first solo flight at just 15 years of age.

The Year 10 student achieved the milestone at Bankstown Airport in Sydney.

William has nearly 40 hours of flight training, which he first commenced last year while living in the U.S. He will be eligible to obtain his Recreational Pilot’s Licence once he turns 16.

William's list of aspirations includes joining the RAAF, working for Qantas and providing medical transport for patients in remote Australia.

He balances school, aviation studies and playing NPL soccer for Radford, helping to pay for his flight training by refereeing Radford games.
