Understanding our Anglican identity

At the core of a Radford education is our identity as a generous-spirited learning community that embodies the beliefs and values of the Christian faith in the Anglican tradition.

As a contemporary school welcoming families from diverse backgrounds, faiths and worldviews, people often ask what our Anglican identity actually means in day-to-day life. Far from being a relic of history or a set of rigid doctrines, our Anglican ethos provides a vibrant, inclusive framework that breathes life into everything we do.

Our mission is clear and enduring: we develop young people to live truthfully, practise compassion and seek wisdom in order to serve the common good. These three pillars – Truth, Compassion and Wisdom – are anchored in a tradition that values intellectual rigour alongside spiritual reflection.

Anglicanism has a proud history of embracing open inquiry, critical thinking and respectful dialogue. We do not ask students to leave their questions at the school gates. Instead, we encourage them to interrogate the world around them deeply and honestly. Faith and reason are not mutually exclusive; rather, they walk hand in hand. Through our Religious and Values Education (RaVE) classes, Godly Play, Chapel services and everyday pastoral interactions, students are invited to explore the big questions of meaning, ethics and purpose.

A vital hallmark of our Anglican identity is generous hospitality. Jesus modelled a ministry that crossed social boundaries, welcomed the outcast and placed dignity and love at the centre of human interaction.

At Radford, we are fiercely proud to be a co-educational Anglican school. We welcome students of all faiths and no faith. In our Chapel and classrooms, every student is seen, known and valued for who they are. Diversity is not merely tolerated – it is celebrated as a reflection of a rich and creative Creator. This inclusive environment teaches our students to look beyond their own experiences, listen deeply to alternative perspectives and build a community defined by empathy and mutual respect.

Belief without action remains incomplete. Our Anglican tradition compels us to look outward, demanding that we translate our learning and privilege into meaningful service for others.

Whether through local community partnerships, global service-learning initiatives or simple acts of daily kindness in the playground, Radford students are encouraged to act beyond self-interest. We strive to graduate young people who are courageous for justice, humble in their gifts and dedicated to the service of the common good.

Ultimately, our Anglican identity is lived out in the ordinary, everyday moments of school life – in how we treat one another, how we respond to challenge and how we imagine a more hopeful future.  It reminds us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves.
