Since 1984, Radford College has been committed to providing a values-driven education in the Anglican tradition. The College has grown into one of Canberra’s leading co-educational schools, offering a continuous journey from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. Guided by the values of Truth, Compassion and Wisdom, Radford has built a proud history of academic excellence, service and community.
Our history
Radford College was founded to meet the growing demand for independent Anglican education in Canberra’s north. From its earliest days, the College has been a place where students are encouraged to flourish academically, socially and spiritually.
With just 235 students across Years 7 and 8 in its inaugural year, Radford has expanded into a thriving learning community of more than 2,000 students. Purpose built facilities, innovative teaching practices and a holistic approach to education have marked each stage of growth. Today, Radford remains true to its Anglican foundation while embracing a future focused vision — shaping young people who are ready to make a meaningful impact in the world.
Bishop Radford
Radford College is named after Lewis Bostock Radford (1869–1937), the fourth Bishop of Goulburn (now Canberra and Goulburn). Born in England, Bishop Radford studied at St John’s College, Cambridge before being ordained in 1892. He served in parishes in England before moving to Australia in 1909. He was appointed Bishop of Goulburn in 1915.
A man of faith, intellect and vision, Bishop Radford was deeply committed to education and the role of schools in shaping both character and service. He championed the importance of truth, compassion and wisdom in daily life, values that remain central to the College today.
Beyond his role as Bishop, he was known as a scholar, theologian and community leader. His advocacy for education and his belief in the transformative power of learning made him an enduring figure in the Anglican tradition.
Radford College carries his name as a lasting tribute to his life of service and dedication to nurturing future generations. His vision for education as a means of personal growth and social responsibility continues to inspire the College community.

Radford College opens with 235 students across Years 7 and 8.

The Senior School opens, allowing teaching up to Year 11.

1988
T.B. Millar Hall opens and the first Year 12 students graduate.

1990
The J.A. Mackinnon Oval opens.

1998
The Sports Centre opens.

1999
The L.J. Willett Performing Arts Centre opens.

2002
The Chapel opens.

2004
The Middle School opens.

2006
Introduction of the Early Learning Centre, expanding education to Pre-Kindergarten.

The Junior School and the R.A. Young Hall open.

2011
The Leyshon Lecture Theatre opens.

The new Senior School opens.

Radford celebrates its 30th anniversary with major community events.

The Heath Lecture Theatre opens.

The College marks its 40th anniversary, celebrating four decades of academic excellence, innovation and community. In the same year, the Collegians Centre, Boorer Family Cricket Centre and Baker Family Sports Precinct open.
