Radford Reaches Out Rainbow Day

Radford Reaches Out Rainbow Day

Rev. Dr Katherine Rainger, Senior Chaplain

Last Friday students in the Secondary School created a display of rainbow colour as we greeted the rain with a rainbow! The purpose of the day was to raise some much-needed funds for St John’s Care.

Radford College has had a long partnership with St John’s Care as we support them as they provide emergency relief and pathways to long term solutions for vulnerable and marginalised people in the Canberra community. Radford students participate in pantry appeals, volunteering on site, and serving and playing music at their community lunches.

Service prefects Will Pak Poy and Laura Castle interviewed Mr Jason Haines from St John’s Care at Week 9’s assembly. We heard some of Jason’s story about the people in his life who had influenced him to think about the needs of those around him. We heard about the resilience that people who come to St John’s Care demonstrate each day. St John’s Care is busier than ever, and any help is gratefully received.

Secondary students donated a gold coin and then had the opportunity to purchase rainbow decorated ice cream served by students in Radford Awareness and Service (RAS) and fairy floss expertly crafted by Design and Technology teacher Mr Neil Craven.

We look forward to reporting back the results of our fundraising efforts next term. To donate to Radford Reaches Out click here.
