Radford team goes the distance at MS Mega Swim

Radford College students took part in a fundraiser over the weekend, supporting people living with multiple sclerosis through the MS Mega Swim – a 24-hour swim relay held at the Australian Institute of Sport.

Our student-led team of 19 participants swam an impressive 74.75 km, more than 5 km further than last year’s effort. This was a remarkable achievement for a group of Secondary School students and, so far, the team has raised $2,651 towards its $3,000 fundraising goal, with donations still being accepted.

A standout individual performance came from Ruben Seow, who raised $1,315, earning him the Youth Fundraiser Award and third place overall among the fundraisers for the event.

The Radford College and Associates Team consisted of students from Years 9, 10 and 11 and some parents and friends: Lawrence Cookson, Quentin Buchler, Zoe Schofield, Cooper Smolenaars, Ruben Seow, Alice Adams, Ethan Yuen, Tor Eveston, Maeve Atkinson, Aiden Berget, Vic Cumpston, Ashley Gould, Ruby Gould, Sanda Halpin, Rajeev Tamhane, Carys Hodgkinson, Stella Layton, Laura Baker, Amanda Harris and myself.

The most valuable members of the event, who deserve a shoutout, were Tor and Quentin, who swam the most kilometres and took on the most difficult shift from 11:00 pm to 3:00 am.

Funds raised support the MS Go for Gold Scholarships, the Plus Financial Assistance Program and essential services for people living with multiple sclerosis. The team’s commitment to swimming, signing up and raising money has made a meaningful contribution and embodies Radford’s commitment to giving back to the community.
