Young musicians shine at Years K–4 Music Recital

On the evening of Tuesday, 4 August, nearly 40 of our youngest musicians gathered in R.A. Young Hall for the Years K–4 Music Recital. We were treated to performances by 2 of our Vocal Foundations groups, our Chopsticks piano ensemble and many soloists on cello, violin, viola, piano, voice and guzheng.

Performing in front of a large audience, such as the one we welcomed on Tuesday evening, takes considerable preparation and courage. In return, it helps students build self-esteem and confidence while giving them a sense of pride and accomplishment. Having a recital to work towards gives students a goal which helps accelerate their progress and listening to one another’s performances provides valuable learning opportunities. It was wonderful to see our students encouraging each other and seeing the sense of fulfilment on their faces as they took their bows and left the stage.

My thanks go to all the staff involved, particularly our Director of Keyboards, Ms Veera Lehtimaki, for accompanying many of the students and expertly stage managing the recital. Congratulations to all the participating students on their polished performances. We look forward to watching these talented young musicians continue to grow in confidence and develop their love of music.
